Hellos All!
And welcome to my meager and at this point in time, meaningless blog! I’ll make this quick and painless. These are some old posts from my 1up blog that I had before I decided to move over to here.
I have held and interest in game development and have started learning how to program in the C++ programming language and how to map for the Source Engine (i.e. The engine Half-life 2 is built upon).
I’m not super amazing at either. I’m all self taught. I picked up a few books on C++ and read a whole bunch of online tutorials for the mapping.
I had a 6-7 month streak at the beginning of 2007 where I was doing programming and mapping ever waking hour. After that, I sort of stopped and started playing games and watching more anime.
I’m now picking up programming again and trying to finish up a text based RPG I’ve started.
Progress:
Combat System: 50%
Score :99%
Drop System: 85%
Inventory System: 50%
AI: 10% (all enemies do currently is attack)
Travel System: 99% (code is all done, just need to plan out events)
I’ve got over 1,000 lines of code so far. It’s been pretty fun making it so far.
I haven’t done any serious work yet, but I have picked up my Source mapping again. I had posted some early works of my CS:S map on the Source SDK forums (formerly VERC) a while back and got some good constructive criticism and comments.
Here’s the thread I posted:

Those screenshots are over 6 months old. I have made a little progress since then, but nothing major. Just made better textures, fixed a few brushes, and added a couple rooms. I hope to finish the upstairs before the year is over.
The Source SDK forum has moved to: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=191
Definitely worth checking out the screenshots thread (in the Source Level Design sub-forum): http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=561329
There are some pretty amazing maps in there.
Hopefully I’ll do something worth blogging about. I’ll also try and get a decent working version of my text-based RPG uploaded somewhere for people to try out.
Well, I may not have gotten very far as far as map or programming updates. I have been working full time and I’m pretty tired and I like to fool around before heading to bed. I’ve been playing a lot of TF2 as of late.
I’ve been learning how to set up servers for the multiple games our “clan” plays. It’s not really a clan, it’s more like a group of friends who put tags on their screen names.
Anyhow, I have been hosting a TF2 server everyday. I’ve been shutting it down in the morning when nobody’s on, so as to let my computer cool down a bit. Hopefully soon I’ll get another cheap computer put together to host it 24/7.
For now, you can join the server at 71.164.24.86:27015. After about 3-5 players get on it starts to pick up and others start joining pretty quick.
I’ve also been getting back into MMOs. I have a lifetime subscription to The Lord of the Rings Online, so I’ve been playing that again. Yet another thing to take up more time.
Now I return to my books and train my self diciplines.
